The ambitious project began with Immertive’s dedicated team conducting thorough site visits to understand the unique requirements of each location. Interactions with faculty and students provided valuable insights, shaping the tailored approach that Immertive adopted for each lab.

Seven Meta Quest headsets were installed in each lab, ensuring an immersive training experience. Immertive provided comprehensive training for educators, focusing on critical areas like normal delivery and PPH prevention.

Continuous improvement was prioritized through feedback collection from trainers and students. Additional modules on NSSK training for neonatal resuscitation will further enrich the labs’ offerings soon.

Immertive’s commitment extends to ongoing online support, ensuring seamless utilization of VR technology. This collaboration marks a significant advancement in healthcare education in India, promising improved outcomes in maternal and neonatal healthcare.

However, accurately estimating blood loss and identifying its underlying causes can be challenging, especially for less experienced healthcare providers.

Immertive’s VR training program addresses this challenge by offering interactive simulations that replicate various scenarios encountered during childbirth. Midwives are transported into virtual delivery rooms where they encounter realistic scenarios of postpartum hemorrhage caused by perineal tear, atonic uterus, and incomplete placenta.

Through these simulations, midwives learn to visually assess blood loss by observing factors such as the color, flow rate, and volume of blood. They also develop the skills to differentiate between different causes of postpartum haemorrhage based on visual cues and clinical indicators.

The AMTSL procedure is a critical intervention aimed at preventing postpartum haemorrhage, a leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide. Skilled midwives play a crucial role in ensuring safe deliveries and reducing maternal mortality rates, making it imperative to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge.

UNFPA’s VR training program designed, developed and implemented by Immertive immerses midwives in a virtual environment that replicates a MLCU delivery room, complete with a virtual patient simulator and realistic scenarios.

The program guides midwives through each step of the AMTSL procedure, from administering uterotonic drugs to controlled cord traction and uterine massage. Midwives can practice these steps repeatedly in a safe and controlled virtual environment, allowing them to gain confidence and proficiency without the risk of harm to real patients.

Aim: To train 800,000 health personnel save precious lives in the labour room.

 

This VR based training program helps healthcare providers such as nurses, midwives and junior doctors who work in the labour room to be skilled in following the updated Navjaat Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (NSSK) algorithm to revive a newborn baby who does not cry at birth within the golden minute.

  • Birth asphyxia is a leading cause of mortality in newborns.
  • The updated NSSK training package developed by the Child Health Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in 2020, in technical collaboration with Norway India Partnership Initiative, has been adapted by Immertive into a Virtual Reality package for training staff such as nurses, midwives and junior doctors who work in the labour room.
  • Trainees are taken through various modules from Preparation to Resuscitation to Observational Care.
  • By practicing key procedures repeatedly, trainees gets familiar with each step and the sequence of performing the tasks as per the NSSK package.
  • Each trainee can be assessed through a unique online Learning Management System that works in the background.
  • The trainee’s performance and efficiency are continuously validated using Objectively Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) methodology and visualized via a dashboard.
